Karen Saverino, APR

Sparking change through the power of voice is in Karen’s family. Her great grandmother was an heiress to an Italian publishing company recognized as a leader in pressing titles about social change. Karen launched her first publication in grade school when she saw that the student newspaper was written by adults. She petitioned the principal to support a student-written newspaper, and they appointed her to run it.

When Metropolitan Group first entered the Washington metropolitan area in 2002, Karen joined as Senior Communications Director. Now as Executive Vice President of Metropolitan Group’s Washington, D.C., office, Karen manages our teams and helps clients create change through strategic communication. With more than 25 years of broad-ranging experience, Karen focuses on brand and message development, diverse stakeholder engagement and earned media.

A 1990 cum laude graduate of Notre Dame of Maryland University, Karen received a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in marketing. She earned her accreditation in public relations (APR) from the Public Relations Society of America in 2001. Inspired to help people on their personal health journeys, Karen participated in Georgetown University’s Institution for Transformational Leadership’s Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate Program in the summer of 2018. She is on the board of the Center for Mind Body Medicine.

In her spare time, you’ll find Karen at the gym, on the meditation cushion, trying out a new, plant-based recipe or marching in protests to protect human rights and our planet.
