Astraea Foundation: Doubling down for LGBTQI inclusion and respect

MG was founded on a passionate commitment to equity, social justice, and human rights. When the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice approached us to help them build a campaign to secure resources to further its mission, we jumped at the opportunity.

Over the course of the next three years, Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice will double its resources dedicated to advancing LGBTQI freedom from persecution, violence and abuse; ensuring all LGBTQI people equal access to healthcare, dignified livelihoods, family protections and parental rights; and stimulating arts and cultural activism that improves the lives of LGBTQI around the world.

In Spring 2014, Astraea introduced Fueling the Frontlines — a 3-year, $20 million global campaign with three important goals:

  1. Supporting LGBTQI movement building by providing grant funding, research, collective action, information sharing, skill building, and leadership development — fueling LGBTQI organizations and activists working in some of the most challenging environments;
  2. Enhancing investment in LGBTQI rights by exposing the LGBTQI funding gaps and collaborating with funders who share Astraea’s vision of global human rights and dramatically expand available philanthropic resources; and
  3. Shifting discriminatory attitudes and behaviors by leveraging media and communication networks to amplify LGBTQI voices, spark nuanced conversation, shift attitudes, and take down barriers to LGBTQI rights.

Congratulations to our friends at Astraea on the launch of this campaign! We applaud your vision and decisive action to create a more just world for all of us.
