Fiona Loomis

Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good—put together—that overwhelm the world. — Desmond Tutu

Fiona is a master’s student studying food sociology in the Netherlands, with a passion for agricultural communication, food policy and food justice. She brings enthusiasm and curiosity to whatever she does, and loves to engage with others. Fiona is deepening her capacity as a facilitator who is rooted in principles of equity.

Having grown up bi-cultural in Normandy, Fiona brings an international perspective and a strong passion for food cultures and sustainable agriculture that was cultivated in the soil of her native Normandy. She bring diverse experiences with agriculture-related work, from working the soil, being a prep cook, to planning research on permaculture systems. She brings a fresh enthusiasm and desire to connect to any project she contributes to. Fiona is passionate about telling stories and listening to others tell theirs, as well as facilitation and writing. She wishes to pursue a future in food and agricultural communications.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • Planning, implementing and maintaining agricultural systems
  • Engagement with diverse food stakeholders in two countries
  • Logistics and social media planning
  • Storytelling through written and oral mediums
  • Team work and panel moderation

  • Leading an organization and facilitation of a panel of scientists aimed at making research more accessible to students in her university.
  • Organized a pop-up restaurant for charity with food sourced from local farms.
  • Organized volunteers at a local food forest farm.

In Community

In her free time, Fiona loves to organize outings with friends and family, from a local museum to a hike through nature. She is part of a choir in the Netherlands and, hopefully, soon in Portland. She is an avid natural waters swimmer, and loves to sit in the sun reading historical fiction. Little else will make her happy than doing these things with a good friend.
