Every spring, the Northwest Film Center, in partnership with The Oregon Arts Commission, recognizes media artists whose work shows exceptional promise and commitment to film and video art through the Oregon Media Arts Fellowship. The fellowship provides financial and other support for production expenses to enable Oregon film and video artists to create or complete new work or works in progress.
This year our vice president of digital strategy, Matt Schulte, was nominated, along with Enie Vaisburd, noted local filmmaker and professor at Pacific University, to be part of the jury for evaluating the proposals submitted for the fellowship.
Matt was not only thrilled to be a juror, but was also surprised by the ways in which the process allowed for a refresh and clarity to his own thoughts and beliefs about creativity. He added, “The depth and breadth of the creativity in the proposals was incredible, and it was an honor to able to contribute my time and support to the creative community out there.”
Matt shared, “Empathy, dedication and patience” is the ultimate mantra to successful filmmaking.
