Foundation for Earth Science: strategic planning & fundraising counsel

The Earth is facing greater challenges today than at any other time in history—rapid population growth, environmental changes and land development, as well as public health crises and an increased demand for energy. The members of the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners generate, analyze, disseminate and apply Earth observation information in their respective fields. Their work results in the availability of timely, science-based information for researchers and decision- makers to use in their efforts to understand and address the environmental, economic and social challenges facing our planet.
The Federation’s work is collaborative, with partners coming together to develop models and tools to make Earth observation information more useful and accessible. And while Federation members work in different areas, they all have one thing in common: the belief that interpreting Earth observation data and applying it to human and environmental needs, will improve life for everyone.
Under contract with the administrative and fundraising arm of the Federation, the Foundation for Earth Science, MG was initially hired to facilitate and write the Federation’s strategic plan. We then wrote the fundraising framework and case for support, facilitated the Education Committee’s planning process, provided strategic counsel on the Foundation’s website development strategy and wrote and designed a multiuse storytelling brochure to illustrate the impact that Earth observation has on human life. The brochure was the first communication tool to be developed for the Federation, so MG facilitated a visioning session to further define the brand and also designed a log for the Foundation. Additional design work included a portfolio folder and electronic template that could be used for creating fact sheets and handouts as well as general letterhead. Currently, MG serves as fundraising, strategic communication and new media counsel.
